The Herman Cain hit parade went to Arkansas. Reports suggest that true to form, Cain knocked the ball out of the political park. He was the guest speaker and star of the show at the Annual Lincoln Day Dinner of the Washington County Republicans in Springdale, Arkansas.
Cain’s knack for exciting ordinary people is clear from news reports in the local Arkansas media. They include comments from citizens in the community.
Local television station 40/29 TV (KHBS/KHOG), Fort Smith-Fayetteville, Arkansas reported:
TEXT
Cain gave his speech in front of 1,500 guests that paid $50 each to see the Republican candidate speak.
“You and I are going to tell this president to hit the highway,” Cain said.

The Washington County Republicans said they set an all-time record for attendance at their Lincoln Day Dinner. They said the door is open for more candidates on the trail to stop through.

Now here is where the rubber meets the road-comments from four area residents after the article (thankfully we were spared the task of wading through hundreds of comments to get the voice of the people):

JR Gibbs · Community College
I like Cain and think he is able but since he is not part of the political machine, I don’t think the GOP will help him and the media is going to eat him alive. * * *
Teresa Davis · Umatilla, Florida
We the People MUST get behind Mr. Cain and force the GOP to see he is our candidate and support him! We can do this!
Carol Clint · Agent at New York Life Insurance Company
Remember us? We the People. To heck with the liberal media and the political machine. The liberal media is self destructing and the political machine has rusted out! * * *

You said: “It will replace the Capital Gains Tax, the Pay Grow Tax and the Death Tax, all with 999,” Cain said. “We wanted it to be simple: 999. No hidden lines. I try to make it complicated, folks, but I can’t.” * * *

Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain spoke Thursday evening to a record northwest Arkansas crowd, which he brought to their feet with several standing ovations during his lively speech. * * *
“Thank you for making this the most successful Washington County Lincoln Day Dinner ever,” organizer Robin Lundstrum told the crowd. She noted some of their past speakers have included Bill O’Reilly, Mike Huckabee, Steve Forbes, Newt Gingrich, and Bobby Jindal. Tonight’s event was the largest with over 1,450 tickets sold.

“The American dream has been hijacked, but we can take it back,” said Cain, who accused liberals of hijacking the American dream. He addressed the economic and military strengths that people attribute to the United States saying that we can restore America’s greatness again.

Cain said the pundits did not expect him to win until his surprise first place showing in the Florida straw poll, but now many are beginning the listen. He credited his rise in the polls to the “voice of the Tea Party.” “The voice of the people is more powerful than the voice of the media,” said Cain. “Message is more important than money.”
Cain’s appearance in Arkansas, which has a late May primary, is a rare one for a Presidential frontrunner, but a sell-out crowd in Springdale got a closer look at the national GOP poll leader tonight.

One of the four comments to the article was quite interesting:
TEXT
Alfred Charles Lewis
Thank the Lord for sending us Herman Cain now we have a choice. Not just between the lessor of the evils. We now have the opportunity to pick a man with principles that run deep in his soul like Reagan. Let us pray, Thank you Lord that you have raised up Herman Cain for this day. Arise and shine for the light has come and the Glory of the lord has risen upon thee! Herman Cain. We pray the Lord that you will give the people spirit to rise up and volunteer, give finances, speak passionately and at the end of the day we will see Lord you are aligning a veritable army around this man Herman Cain because righteousness, justice, and truth need to be restored to America. We prey in Jesus name AMEN

The takeaways from the news reports and citizen comments almost scream at you.
A speaking event for Herman Cain sells more tickets than events for speakers like Bill O’Reilly, the number one conservative cable talk host; Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas, former GOP candidate for President and a contributor to FOX News; Steve Forbes, publisher of Forbes Magazine and former GOP candidate for President; Newt Gingrich, former GOP Speaker of the House and a GOP candidate for President; and Bobby Jindal, GOP Governor of Louisiana and a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN and FOX!
A citizen commenting by thanking the Lord for sending us Herman Cain and giving us a choice!
That’s powerful stuff!!
Herman Cain is reaching and touching the average voter. And at least so far, he’s beating his competitors because he’s doing a better job of touching common people than they are.
There is a view that Cain is so appealing because he is uniquely different as Presidential candidates go. In commenting on his campaign ads, NPR noted:
TEXT
Mark McKinnon, who produced ads for the campaigns of George W. Bush and John McCain, says that unconventionality is the point.
“That may be the brilliance of it,” he says, “that it captures our attention; it makes us really wonder. But at the end of the day, as different, as unconventional and as weird as they are, there is a fundamental message in them that says, ‘I’m different. I’ve got a different approach. People are sick of everything they’ve seen before. They’re sick of all the slick advertising that they’ve seen from everybody else, so why not take a different approach?’ And that’s kind of the whole Herman Cain message: Why not something different? Why not Herman Cain?”

* Is that what’s going on, Herman Cain is uniquely different?
* Is the message from Arkansas: “Why not Herman Cain?”
* Will that message resonate with voters throughout the GOP primary election contest?
* Could that message resonate with the voters of America in the 2012 general election?
